Overview

We all play more than one role in our lives.

Any role is typically defined by a core responsibility or something we hold ourselves or others hold us accountable for. Fulfilling or excelling at the role often is a core driver or motivation for things users set out to do in a given role.

Ordinarily, you would have to duplicate a persona to capture multiple roles. This seems a bit redundant, leads to confusion and frankly seems a bit silly.

The structure

We think there’s a better way, in Personify, you can create many roles under one persona.

Here’s an outline of what this structure looks like from a high level.

Persona

Why is this really useful? Because these roles we play don’t sit in silos, rather they influence, direct, and even define the things we choose to do and avoid in each role.

How it works

For example, a professional marketing manager who is also a parent may structure his workday availability based on times he has to pick up and drop off his child at school.

In this scenario, it’s important to capture the professional role is influenced by a personal role. Modeling our such relationships within roles makes for more holistic understanding of your users, their behaviors and needs.
